As always, what you consider to be the best time to visit Grand Cayman might be different than someone else’s, but if you ask us, we think that the best time to visit is between December and April.
December through April is the high season for Grand Cayman, thanks to far less rain and more comfortable temperatures. Don’t worry. It will still be warm during these months, thanks to the tropical climate, but it won’t be excessively warm.
These are the average temperatures in Georgetown, Grand Cayman’s main city, during the high season:
- December: High of 85° F and a low of 74° F
- January: High of 84° F and a low of 73° F
- February: High of 84° F and a low of 73° F
- March: High of 85° F and a low of 73° F
- April: High of 87° F and a low of 75° F
Remember, these are just averages and can vary, but overall these temperatures should be comfortable for your trip. With comfortable temperatures, many tourists spend time on the island during these months, so expect crowds.
Now, if you want to visit during the best time for scuba diving, which runs from February to May, water temperatures are more comfortable, and visibility increases.
If you’re considering booking your trip to Grand Cayman during these months, we recommend you do it as far in advance as possible. Since the island sees many more tourists during this time, you want to try and get the best flights, prices, and your top choice of accommodation.
Cheapest Time to Visit Grand Cayman
Generally, the off-season is the cheapest time to visit Grand Cayman, from May through November. Most people see flights, accommodations, and activities far cheaper during this time since fewer tourists are visiting.
For example, let’s look at one airline flying from Miami to Grand Cayman. In February, the cost is roughly $1,044 round trip, while flying from the same origin city in June is about $344 round trip.
The cost of flights is just one example, though. Depending on where you’re traveling from, you might not see a huge difference in flight prices, but this should give you an idea of how much cheaper it is to visit Grand Cayman in the off-season.
Hotels and other vacation rentals also tend to be cheaper during this time. Even tour companies might offer discounts on tickets or attractions since they’re not seeing nearly as many tourists during these months.
If you’re looking to travel to Grand Cayman, you may wonder why costs are lower from May through November. The answer is the weather. Fewer tourists visit during these months as there is a higher potential for hurricane activity and more rainy days.
Least Busy Time to Visit Grand Cayman

The least busy time is during the summer and early fall months, from May/June to November. Notably, June marks the start of the hurricane and rainy season in Grand Cayman, which can deter many tourists.
Since most people head to Grand Cayman for the sunshine and beach weather, going during the high season is far more common. When you visit during the least busy time, you might have to battle unpredictable weather, but you’ll have a more peaceful visit.
Fewer tourists wandering around also you probably won’t have to wait in life for the popular attractions. Likewise, you’ll have more freedom to book a preferred hotel, enjoy the top restaurants when you desire, and more.
So while it’s not everyone’s first choice when to visit, there are a lot of benefits to heading to Grand Cayman during the least busy time.
Worst Time to Visit Grand Cayman
While the best and worst are subjective, the worst time generally to plan a trip to Grand Cayman is from June through November, when it’s the hurricane season.
Tropical Cyclone activity is heightened during this time, particularly in August and September. These tropical systems can bring heavy rain, extreme winds, and awful weather, ruining outdoor activities and other vacation plans.
The Cayman Islands is usually impacted by a tropical storm or hurricane at least once a year, but typically they aren’t detrimental.
Luckily, there is usually a decent amount of notice for these storms, but if you don’t want to risk getting caught in one or having a hurricane cancel your plans, it’s prudent to avoid the summer and early fall months in Grand Cayman.
Interestingly, the temperatures aren’t much different from the more popular, all-sunny periods of the year. It’s noteworthy that the temperatures can reach well into the 90s, and the high humidity can be uncomfortable, especially for people not used to such a climate.
Besides this part of the year being hurricane season, it’s also known as the off-season for tourists.
This means many shops, restaurants, and attractions might not be open or have limited hours since fewer people are visiting the island. But, at the same time, this could be great for those who prefer fewer crowds.
