It’s no secret in my family that I love all-inclusive resorts in Mexico. And when I say that I love them, I mean that I LOVE them. You’ll find my wife and I at one every year, without fail, so it’s safe to say that we’ve tried a lot of them.

It’s also safe to say that I’ve been to a few bad resorts during my annual pilgrimage to Mexico. But don’t worry — I’ve only included the best here.

Personally, I prefer the Playa Mujeres/Riviera Maya areas, which is where the bulk of the resorts on our list are found. However, we’ve included a few others to make sure that we’re accommodating all tastes.

So, if you’ve never experienced one of these life-changing places, you might be asking, “are they really worth the money?” And the answer is definitely yes! As long as you pick the right resort.

Hint hint: Use our guide below and we think you’ll be going back every year too!

  • Choose resorts with true all-inclusive amenities and lots to do
  • Look for the highest-rated resorts with prices that fit your budget
  • Check amenities, locations, and requirements before booking

If you want to skip over “meh” resort experiences in Mexico that leave much to be desired, it’s wise to start your search by looking at the best of the best all-inclusive resorts in Mexico.

It sounds simple enough, but when every resort bills itself as the best around, it’s harder to get a clear picture of which ones are truly top-tier.

Lists of amenities, location information, and honest guest reviews and ratings are the only way to get a true sense of which resorts are genuinely among the best in Mexico.

So that’s exactly what we rounded up!

Our list of the best all-inclusive resorts in Mexico is built from real guest and resort data from Booking.com for accurate and up-to-date information. We found that there are a few special considerations would-be travelers should take to ensure they book a stay at the best resort for their trip goals.

Resort amenities, great dining options, tons of activity options, and convenient or gorgeous locations are essential for the best-possible resort stay in Mexico.

You’ll also want to consider any resort requirements – like adults-only resorts that don’t allow children, or the rare clothing-optional resorts – to make sure you’re booking a stay that fits your needs. We’ll cover the location, price, rating, and amenities offered at each one below!

The 10 Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Mexico

  • Location: Riviera Maya, Mexico
  • Price: $3,049+
  • Rating: 9.3 (Wonderful)

Looking for an over-the-top amazing experience at a highly rated adults-only resort with tons of things to do? Check out my personal favorite resort, Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun.

This place boasts 13 pools, 8 gourmet restaurants, amazing buffets, onsite shops, a private beach club on Playa Maroma, and hot tubs in every suite.

Onsite classes and activities are almost endless at Secrets!

Take a yoga or dance class, play volleyball on the private beach, or head off the grounds to check out Cancun’s world-famous nightlife just 30 minutes away.

You’ll enjoy live entertainment daily and a fabulous spa to melt away stress and worry while you lounge at one of the best all-inclusive resorts in Mexico for a more affordable rate than you’d imagine.

My wife and I booked this resort last year for our anniversary and it was everything it claims to be (and more)! While most resorts aren’t worth the premium room upgrade, we booked the Honeymoon suite in the Preferred Club section.

This room was enormous, had an amazing ocean view from the second floor, and included some nice little touches like free sunscreen (it’s $40 at the gift shop otherwise) and whatever your favorite liquor was, stocked just for you.

We’ll definitely be going back!

  • Location: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
  • Price: $7,170+
  • Rating: 9.6 (Exceptional)

Looking for a quiet resort vacation in Mexico with an upscale yet family-friendly experience? Head to Grand Velas Los Cabos in the relaxing Baja California Sur Region where Mexico’s Pacific coast meets the Sea of Cortez.

Exceptional is the only word to describe the experience you’ll have here, with 3 infinity pools, a private (non-swimmable) beach at Boca del Tule, luxury spa, and 6 specialty restaurants to dine in.

Every unit has a stunning view of the sea, and you’re never far from the premium bar or a taste of adventure with world-class marlin fishing (for an additional fee).

4. Atelier Playa Mujeres ($$)

Source: Booking.com

  • Location: Playa Mujeres, Mexico
  • Price: $2,905+
  • Rating: 9.3 (Wonderful)

Family-friendly Atelier Playa Mujeres is nestled in northern Cancun and delivers an awesome all-inclusive 5-star resort experience for a mid-range price that makes it that much more attractive for visitors.

This quiet marina and golf destination is perfect for a relaxing stay with activities to amp up the excitement if you so choose. A private beach area on top-rated Mujeres Beach, luxury heated pool, spa, and hot tub are waiting for you here!

Dine at any of the 9 highly-rated restaurants here with seafood, local Mexican food, steakhouses, Italian fare, and American food options to keep things interesting.

Stroll the onsite garden, try fun activities (like cycling tours and cooking classes), or take advantage of the resort’s water sports facilities to go snorkeling, diving, fishing, and more.

This is another one of my favorite resorts. It’s modern, chic, and everyone that worked there were some of the most helpful employees I’ve ever met. I loved the smoked Old Fashioned from the Havana-style bar and also loved the smoked steak at the Western restaurant.

While it’s not a huge deal for someone like me that parks themselves by the pool all day, keep in mind that this resort sits back from the ocean a bit, so you won’t have the amazing ocean views like you will at somewhere like Secrets Maroma.

And the resort is also extremely long, so if you end up having a room on the ocean side of the resort, it’ll take about 10 minutes to make it to the lobby and the restaurants.

It’s not a deal breaker for me because the food is amazing and the resort makes up for the lack of view in strides. But just keep this in mind if you’re someone that likes a short walk and a view of the ocean from the pool.

Things to Consider

What else should you know before booking your stay at one of the best all-inclusive resorts in Mexico? Here are a few helpful tips to make the most of your visit from start to finish.

Getting to the Resort

Some of the best all-inclusive resorts in Mexico offer a complimentary or paid airport shuttle for guests to make getting to the resort easier. Check with your resort when you book to see if this service is offered for free or for a fee – it’s so helpful!

If an airport shuttle isn’t offered, take an airport taxi to your resort if you plan to stay on the grounds throughout your visit. If you want to drive to nearby ruins and cities, it may be worth renting a car.

Crime and Safety

Mexico is generally a safe place to visit, with the most common crimes being petty, nonviolent crimes. Mugging, robbery, and cartel violence is mostly limited to areas that resort guests won’t venture into.

Stick to safe areas and neighborhoods – your resort concierge can be really helpful here – and keep your wits about you to avoid pickpocketing and scams.

Stash valuables in your locked room and don’t walk alone at night to enhance your personal safety. If you’re taking a taxi, make sure it’s an authorized or Uber taxi to avoid taxi scams.

Traveler Tips

  • Pick the best area for you. Mexico’s resorts are mostly situated along the coasts – the Pacific/Sea of Cortez coast to the west and the Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean Sea coast to the east. The west is quieter with a more traditional Mexican feel, while the east is geared toward tourists and a lively, party atmosphere.
  • Plan on tipping service workers. Your bartender, wait staff, poolside servers, housekeeping staff, and bellhops will usually appreciate small tips for offering great service. Plan on tipping about $1 or 20 pesos per drink, or 100-200 pesos ($5-$10) per day for housekeeping or wait staff.
  • Bring clothing for all occasions. Most resort restaurants have some sort of dress code, whether it’s casual or formal. Collared shirts for men with chinos or pants are a safe bet, as are dresses, blouses, skirts, and pants for women. Swimwear and beach wear usually isn’t allowed, so check with your resort to get dress code requirements for each restaurant before you go.

Still have questions about narrowing down your options for the best all-inclusive resorts in Mexico? Check out the most frequently asked questions to learn more about successfully planning your stay.

What is the most luxurious all-inclusive resort in Mexico?

La Casa de la Playa by Xcaret is the most luxurious all-inclusive resort in Mexico, according to Booking.com guest reviews.

Unforgettable adventure tours to cenotes and rainforests, a luxury full-service spa, sparkling pools, and in-suite hot tubs make this resort beyond luxurious.

At around $11,000 for a 5-night stay for 2, it's not cheap, but offers amazing amenities for the price.

Is Cancun or Cabo better?

Cancun and Cabo are both great places to visit in Mexico, but they're geared toward different crowds.

Cancun is the best option for adventure, parties, and nightlife that gives your stay an energetic vibe.

Cabo is better for families and luxury, serene visits built on quiet enjoyment and relaxation.

What is the most popular all-inclusive resort in Mexico?

Hotel Xcaret Mexico regularly ranks on lists of the most popular all-inclusive resorts in Mexico since it offers a touch of luxury at an affordable price with All-Fun Inclusive access to all of Xcaret's amazing parks.

Guests can visit Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor, Xplor Fuego, Xoximilco, Xenses, Xavage and Xenotes and dine at restaurants in each one for a varied, enjoyable experience.

Is it worth paying for all-inclusive?

All-inclusive resorts bundle your meals, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), activities, luxury amenities, and sometimes tips/gratuities into one base price.

For many, it's well worth paying for all-inclusive resort stays and actually ends up being cheaper than paying for food, drinks, and activities individually.

All-inclusive may not be worth it if you plan on cooking your own food, don't drink alcohol, or will spend a lot of time outside of your resort.

What should you not do at an all-inclusive resort?

Don't try to eat at the onsite restaurants wearing swimwear or beach clothing if there's a posted dress code. Free drinks can translate to sloppy behavior, so pace yourself and don't over-imbibe.

It's also wise to avoid drinking tap water (ice counts, too) and walking alone at night, even in safe areas. Don't show off valuables or get distracted on your phone while in public.
