All internships provide a high level of work experience with the aim to increase your skills within the industry.

App Development

App Development interns will be involved with the creation of applications for either mobiles or computers.

The role of one previous App Development intern was to create content for rehabilitation games (serious games or exergames), which are being developed to operate on a novel stroke rehabilitation device using a miniPC and Linux OS. The game content will motivate elders suffering from a stroke to carry out long duration exercise routines using the novel device.

IT Helpdesk

IT help-desk interns are a point of contact for users to gain assistance in troubleshooting, get answers to questions, and solve problems. Some of the tasks that have been previously asked of IT Help-desk interns are:

  • To assess problems and identify solutions.
  • To take ownership of issues by carrying out problem analysis to implement temporary or permanent fixes.
  • ​To accurately record, update and document requests using the IT service desk system.
  • To create and maintain documentation of all internal systems, monitoring, security and automation.

IT Networking

Some of the tasks you may be asked to complete as an IT Networking intern include:

  • Working alongside the IT team.
  • Handling desktop, server and network support.
  • Building desktop PCs and installing software.
  • Taking care of software deployment automation.
  • Assisting System Administrators.
  • Attending video conferences.

Software Development

Software development is the process of computer programming, documenting, testing, and bug fixing. Some of the responsibilities of an Software Development intern may be:

  • Taking part in research and development projects to deliver improvements.
  • Analysing, designing, developing, testing and troubleshooting software systems to provide high quality, reliable, adaptable support to the business.
  • Maintaining and modifying software systems to ensure their continued efficient operation and continued fit with changing business need.
  • Preparing and maintaining automated test suites to assure quality of delivered systems.

Software Engineering

The Software Engineering intern may be asked to assist in a variety of tasks such as:

  • IT support.
  • Developing and implementing IT based solutions.
  • Documentation and Training.
  • Website development and maintenance.
  • Web application development and maintenance.

Software Testing

The Software Testing interns may be exposed to the following tasks:

  • Updating, installing and maintenance of computing equipment on premises and in cloud.
  • Providing various administrative assistance as required.
  • Working on client site projects providing testing support and services as required.
  • Supporting the sales activities of staff by assisting with presentation, proposals etc.
  • Testing and assisting on projects.

Systems Engineering

The duties of a previous Systems Engineer intern included:

  • Coordinating with site engineers to gather site details and load data, populate site appraisal reports, load data into software and stimulation platforms and report results.
  • Coordinating with in-house engineers on systems application engineering and design.
  • Coordinating with engineers on systems drawings.
  • Compiling draft reports, including techno-economic feasibility and socio-economic impact assessments for subsequent review and publication.
  • ​Coordinating with site engineers to assist in the installation, commissioning and operation of systems.
  • Coordinating with site and in-house engineers on systems 'as-built' specifications, drawings, operations protocols and user manuals.

Website Design

The previous role description for a Website Design intern was as follows:

  • To design, build and maintain websites and Flash multimedia applications.
  • To assist all team members to build web pages.
  • Ability to interpret, find solutions for, and complete page builds for designs produced by Base Two designers.
  • Advise Base Two designers as and when necessary.
  • Basic LAN administration - monitoring server logs, setting up email addresses, monitoring email capacity, server administration, performing server backups, providing offside records.
  • To assist the Interactive Director with quotes, designs, proposals, pitches and presentations as required.
  • Client liaison.

​Website Development

A previous project involved the intern working with tools such as:

  • Google Analytics,
  • Google Tag Manager,
  • Google Adwords,
  • Google Webmaster Tools,
  • SEO Performance,
  • Social Performance,
  • Campaign Monitor.


Accommodation is not included in the Programme, however, our partners do have accommodation available and you can arrange to use their accommodation while you're there. The details of the accommodation currently on offer are below:

Our Sydney accommodation is located around 10km from the CBD, in a foodie suburb with lots of restaurants and cafes. The area has a community feel, and there are bus stops and a train station nearby so you can easily reach the CBD.

Your room comes fully furnished with:

  • A bed + wardrobe and desk + chair
  • A kitchenette with a microwave and a fridge
  • Flat-screen TV
  • Free WiFi

In our accommodation, you'll have all the facilities you need:

  • Including a 24/7 onsite management team
  • The latest in building security
  • Communal living areas, including dining area and outdoor BBQ
  • Access to a gym and outdoor pool
  • Shared access to bathroom facilities which are located outside your bedroom
  • Laundry facilities and big shared kitchen.

Our Melbourne accommodation is located in the city centre where plenty shops, restaurants and bars can be found. There is a tram station in front of the accommodation and the train station is just 5 minutes away.

Your room will be furnished with:

  • A comfortable bed + wardrobe
  • A desk and chair
  • Heat/air conditioning
  • LCD TV

The apartment has:

  • ​A kitchenette with cook top
  • A bar fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave
  • Bathroom facilities
  • Weekly housekeeping
  • Free Wifi

You can use the shared facilities in the building such as the swimming pool and the gym.

Food is not provided in this programme, but your accommodation will have cooking facilities.

Once you have applied for a placement, we'll contact you and send you our Welcome Pack. You'll also receive Log-on details and password for our Volunteer Extranet where you'll have access to all the documentation and information which we've put together to facilitate preparations for your adventure! Your Project Co-ordinator for your country will liaise with you throughout the arrangements process, as well as while you're on your placement and on your return home.

The documents you'll have access to also include a Country Factfile, Safety Guide and any manuals that may assist you on your particular programme (e.g. Teaching Guide, Sports Manuals, Enrichment Suggestions for Animal Care, etc.). We do all we can to make your stay one that you'll never forget. This is a truly awesome, elegant and beautiful country.


Food: We suggest around $60 per week for food.

Transportation: around $25 per week for travel within the main Wellington area.
