We arrange your Fashion and Design internship in various fields. Described below are the most common types of Fashion and Design internships we organise and some of the tasks you can expect to be asked of you. All internships provide a high level of work experience with the aim to increase your skills within the industry.

The examples below are just a guideline and each internship role will be developed individually according to the company and the candidate. You can see the description of each internship in the Example Internships tab below.

Fashion Design | Graphic Design | Interior Design | Product Design

SUMMARY: THE BASICS

Price: £1,395 without accommodation (approx. US$1,800) for 6 weeks or longer, regardless of length of time
£3,250 with accommodation (approx. US$4,225) for 6 weeks
£450 (US$585) for each additional week with accommodation.
Excludes flights. Please see Full Price List & prices in other currencies
Duration: From 6 weeks to 12 weeks or longer.
Start Dates: All year round - Please see the Start Dates tab.
Requirements: Different firms will have different requirements, but you will need to either be studying or have some experience.

Your Internship will be tailored to suit your own requirements

Fashion Design

Fashion Design interns will often be involved with both the creative side of fashion design and the more administrative side. Employers usually seek applicants with creativity, as well as a good technical understanding of the production process for clothing, accessories, or footwear. The intern may be asked to complete such tasks as:

  • Updating contact lists of fashion editors.
  • Assisting in writing press releases for new products.
  • Assisting and creating media campaigns.
  • Working on the creation, implementation and execution of PR events.

​Graphic Design

The duties of a Graphic Design might include:

  • Design work for brand marketing and social and digital platforms.
  • Copy-writing for campaigns.
  • Video production, editing and uploading.
  • Running social media campaigns.
  • Helping with research, e.g. image searches, for other designers' jobs.
  • Updates on existing jobs across both online and print media.

Interior Design

Interior Design Interns are involved with the interior decoration of a room or building. An intern might assist with all aspects of a successful interior design business. Tasks might include:

  • Assisting the director with sourcing fabrics, wallpapers, flooring, tiles and bench tops.
  • Client presentations.
  • Researching projects.
  • Putting together estimates and look-books for clients.
  • Site visits.
  • Learning how to measure spaces, furniture and window treatments.
  • Putting together purchase orders, invoices, advertisements for different publications, and taking payments.
  • Assisting with show room maintenance.
  • Returning samples to suppliers.
  • Keeping track of showroom inventory.

​Product Design

Product Design interns will gain understanding of the design process from start to finish. They will predominantly be involved with projects that will provide experience in:

  • Concept development,
  • CAD modelling,
  • Drafting,
  • Prototype development,
  • Product testing,
  • Supplier management.

ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS - SYDNEY AND MELBOURNE:

When arranging your Internship, we will also liaise with you regarding whether or not you'd like to use our existing accommodation or arrange your own. The choice is yours.

SYDNEY ACCOMMODATION:
Our Sydney accommodation is located around 10km from the CBD, in a foodie suburb with lots of restaurants and cafes. The area has a community feel, and there are bus stops and a train station nearby so you can easily reach the CBD.

Your room comes fully furnished with:

  • A bed + wardrobe and desk + chair
  • A kitchenette with a microwave and a fridge
  • Flat-screen TV
  • Free WiFi

In our accommodation, you'll have all the facilities you need:

  • Including a 24/7 onsite management team
  • The latest in building security
  • Communal living areas, including dining area and outdoor BBQ
  • Access to a gym and outdoor pool
  • Shared access to bathroom facilities which are located outside your bedroom
  • Laundry facilities and big shared kitchen.

MELBOURNE ACCOMMODATION:
Our Melbourne accommodation is located in the city centre where plenty shops, restaurants and bars can be found. There is a tram station in front of the accommodation and the train station is just 5 minutes away.

Your room will be furnished with:

  • A comfortable bed + wardrobe
  • A desk and chair
  • Heat/air conditioning
  • LCD TV

The apartment has:

  • ​A kitchenette with cook top
  • A bar fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave
  • Bathroom facilities
  • Weekly housekeeping
  • Free Wifi

You can use the shared facilities in the building such as the swimming pool and the gym.

FOOD:
Food is not provided in this programme, but your accommodation will have cooking facilities.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BOOK YOUR PLACEMENT?
Once you have applied for a placement, we'll contact you and send you our Welcome Pack. You'll also receive Log-on details and password for our Volunteer Extranet where you'll have access to all the documentation and information which we've put together to facilitate preparations for your adventure! Your Project Co-ordinator for your country will liaise with you throughout the arrangements process, as well as while you're on your placement and on your return home.

The documents you'll have access to also include a Country Factfile, Safety Guide and any manuals that may assist you on your particular programme (e.g. Teaching Guide, Sports Manuals, Enrichment Suggestions for Animal Care, etc.). We do all we can to make your stay one that you'll never forget. This is a truly awesome, elegant and beautiful country.
