We arrange internships in various fields of Business. Described below are the most common types of business internships we organise and some of the tasks you can expect to be asked of you. All internships provide a high level of work experience with the aim to increase your skills within the industry.

The examples below are just a guideline and each internship role will be developed individually according to the company and the candidate. You can see the description of each internship in the Example Internships tab below.

Price: £1,395 without accommodation (approx. US$1,800) for 6 weeks or longer, regardless of length of time
£3,250 with accommodation (approx. US$4,225) for 6 weeks
£450 (US$585) for each additional week with accommodation.

Requirements: Different firms will have different requirements, but you will need to either be studying or have some experience.

An Accounting internship can vary widely depending on the company the intern is placed with. Some of the tasks that might be expected of you include:

  • Payroll management.
  • Auditing tax collection reconciliation.
  • Client contract management.
  • Cash flow analysis.
  • Accounts payable/receivable functions.
  • Budget forecasting.
  • Business analyst work.

Business Administration

A Business Administration internship might relate to the day-to-day operations within a company, including the management of business operations and decision making. Tasks can include:

  • Managing of contracts.
  • Managing communications with offsite staff.
  • Scheduling appointments.
  • Customer relationship management admin.
  • General administrative duties.

Business Analysis

A Business Analysis internship involves research into identifying the business' needs and determining solutions based on the business' problems. ​Some of your duties could involve:

  • Business process and system documentation analysis and mapping.
  • Analysis of business processes.
  • Website and web application development.
  • Aiding the projected manager in change management.
  • Microsoft Excel based reporting and analysis e.g. tables, charts, data linking etc.


​Economics refers to the production, consumption and transfer of wealth from a personal to a national level. It is often divided into microeconomics, referring to an individual, group or company, and macroeconomics, focusing on national economics as a whole.

​Internships can be arranged in either or both of these areas, depending on your preferences. An internship in Economics may include:

  • Assisting with spreadsheet models for budgeting.
  • Contributing an article to a weekly economics publication.
  • Maintaining and updating databases.
  • Research policy for longer-term projects.


A Finance internship tends to be orientated towards how much money a company makes and the potential to increase this. A Finance intern may be asked to:

  • Analyse and forecast financial data.
  • Provide accurate information for strategic and operational decisions.
  • Evaluate market trends to forecast an organisation's short, medium and long term financial and competitive position.
  • Aid the enhancing of profitability models.

Human Resources and Recruitment

Human Resources refers to the part of a business or company that deals with the hiring, administration and training of staff. During a Human Resources internship, you may be involved with:

  • HR administration support.
  • Assisting with interviews.
  • External communications on the website and intranet, and internal communications by assisting with presentations for meetings.
  • Screening of new candidates.
  • Assisting with the end-to-end growth process, from recruitment to selection and training.
  • Managing training days.


A logistics intern will be involved in the planning, execution and control of the movement of goods and/or people, and is specifically concerned with customer satisfaction. A Logistics internship may include such tasks as:

  • Supporting business management as a continuous improvement specialist.
  • Leading continuous improvement projects.
  • Development of improvement initiatives.
  • Focusing on the elimination of waste.
  • Reviewing and researching current performance, for example, in warehouses, so they run more smoothly and with greater efficiency.


Operations refers to the administration of business practices in order to increase the level of efficiency, and is concerned with attempting to balance costs with revenue in order to achieve the highest operating profit possible. An Operations internship might include work in the following areas:

  • Stock location, stock takes and order picking.
  • Receiving and documenting inwards goods.
  • The processes and procedures in all aspects of the operation.
  • Administrative tasks as necessary.

Public Relations

A Public Relations internship involves maintaining a positive public image of a company. A Public Relations intern may be asked to:

  • Assist the manager with the coordination of day-to-day client/agency relationships.
  • Support and promote the reputation of the company or business.
  • Update social media presence.
  • Provide event management and event assistance.
  • Monitor and report on digital media.
  • Provide campaign support.


Sales promotion is concerned with encouraging a customer to buy a product or service. Duties during a Sales internship are very dependable on the company, but a Sales intern might expect to be involved in:

  • General administrative duties within the sales team.
  • Telemarketing duties, including following up and sending sales leads.
  • Handling incoming calls.
  • Taking minutes at sales meetings.
  • Active promotion of the company, product and services .
  • Cold calling.

Supply Chain Management

Supply Chain Management is a complex and dynamic supply and demand network, and is involved with moving a product or service from supplier to customer. During a Supply Chain Management internship, an intern might be involved in:

  • Understanding the inward processes, including the MPI requirements and how these are applied.
  • Locating and managing an inventory system.
  • Processing of orders and rotation of stock, including the tracking by batch/use by date, or both.
  • Picking and checking stock, and packing to suit the product, destination and the freight component.

Sustainable Business

In the past, a Sustainable Business internship has included:

  • Researching and reporting on topics within Australian Action2020 Focus Areas and Projects, including Climate & Energy, Low Carbon Technology Partnerships initiative, Australian Business and Biodiversity Initiative, Circular Economy/Safe and Sustainable Materials, Redefining Value and the Sustainable Mobility Project.
  • Observing and taking minutes in Australian Action2020 Work Group meetings.
  • Observing meetings with members, partners and other stakeholders.
  • Assisting with corporate sustainability event management, such as conferences and round-tables.
  • Assisting with transferring and developing content for our new website.


A Trade internship can involve the buying and selling of goods and services, or the exchange of goods and services between parties. Specifics of the tasks involved in a Trade internship vary widely from one company to another, depending on the intern's preferences. The tasks for a Trade intern might include:

  • Reviewing and rationalising the company's performance.
  • Reviewing marketing and staffing budgets.
  • Creating new links with suppliers.
  • Building an understanding of the market, its potential and its size.
  • Looking at the potential in adjacent markets.​​


When arranging your Internship, we will also liaise with you regarding whether or not you'd like to use our existing accommodation or arrange your own. The choice is yours.

Our Sydney accommodation is located around 10km from the CBD, in a foodie suburb with lots of restaurants and cafes. The area has a community feel, and there are bus stops and a train station nearby so you can easily reach the CBD.

Your room comes fully furnished with:

  • A bed + wardrobe and desk + chair
  • A kitchenette with a microwave and a fridge
  • Flat-screen TV
  • Free WiFi

In our accommodation, you'll have all the facilities you need:

  • Including a 24/7 onsite management team
  • The latest in building security
  • Communal living areas, including dining area and outdoor BBQ
  • Access to a gym and outdoor pool
  • Shared access to bathroom facilities which are located outside your bedroom
  • Laundry facilities and big shared kitchen.

Our Melbourne accommodation is located in the city centre where plenty shops, restaurants and bars can be found. There is a tram station in front of the accommodation and the train station is just 5 minutes away.

Your room will be furnished with:

  • A comfortable bed + wardrobe
  • A desk and chair
  • Heat/air conditioning
  • LCD TV

The apartment has:

  • ​A kitchenette with cook top
  • A bar fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave
  • Bathroom facilities
  • Weekly housekeeping
  • Free Wifi

You can use the shared facilities in the building such as the swimming pool and the gym.

Food is not provided in this programme, but your accommodation will have cooking facilities.

Once you have applied for a placement, we'll contact you and send you our Welcome Pack. You'll also receive Log-on details and password for our Volunteer Extranet where you'll have access to all the documentation and information which we've put together to facilitate preparations for your adventure! Your Project Co-ordinator for your country will liaise with you throughout the arrangements process, as well as while you're on your placement and on your return home.

The documents you'll have access to also include a Country Factfile, Safety Guide and any manuals that may assist you on your particular programme (e.g. Teaching Guide, Sports Manuals, Enrichment Suggestions for Animal Care, etc.). We do all we can to make your stay one that you'll never forget. This is a truly awesome, elegant and beautiful country.
