POLO SPORTS EXPERIENCE, NEAR BUENOS AIRES ARGENTINA

A rare opportunity to learn how to play Polo and work with polo horses in an elite and exclusive Club located on a picturesque ranch just outside Buenos Aires.

You'll work alongside gauchos exercising the horses and mucking out in the mornings, followed by Polo lessons at the Club, then you'll have 2 chukkas in the afternoons to practice what you learnt earlier in the day.

Start Dates This project is available between February and April and from August to December. You can choose your start and finish dates during these periods.

Requirements

Minimum age 18. No previous experience on Polo is needed but you should be a  good rider. Knowledge of Spanish is not needed, but would be helpful.

Price From £995 for 1 week, ranging to £7,995 for 12 weeks.

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
Lessons are held at a very elite and exclusive Polo club, which is on an amazing picturesque Ranch, 60km from Buenos Aires. The club was established in 1995 and there are lots of other facilities at the club as well as Polo, such as a swimming pool and tennis courts.

WORK AND COURSE CONTENT
You'll have Polo lessons in the mornings, five times a week, and 2 Chukka’s (matches) in the afternoons, six times a week. You'll be taught everyday by professional Polo players and you'll have theoretical and practical lessons. The horses are specially selected and properly kept, assuring enjoyable chukkas!

Internal tournaments are periodically organized for volunteers with Argentinean Polo members of the club. You'll spend your mornings working alongside with gauchos (horse keepers) exercising the horses and helping out with general stable work. You will be responsible for one horse.

You'll then be driven to the Polo Club for a Polo lessons (stick and bailing, rules, general principles, etc.) and will come back for lunch. After a traditional siesta, when you will be able to swim, play tennis, cycle, use internet, learn Spanish or relax, you'll be taken back to the Polo Club where you'll will have 2 chukka’s to practice what you've learnt.

Lessons are held every day (including Saturday & Sunday, when you'll have plenty of opportunities to share matches with professional players). Mondays are free days to go to the city (Buenos Aires) or relax. You'll be able to get lifts into Buenos Aires as and when house owner or one of his 6 sons and daughters if one of them is travelling to the city.

A typical day would consist of:

  • 9.00 am: Breakfast

  • 10.30 am: Polo Lesson

  • 1.30 pm: Lunch followed by free afternoon or siesta

  • 4.00 pm: Tea

  • 4.30 pm: Polo matches (2 per afternoon)

  • 9.00 pm: Dinner.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO WHILE ON THIS PROJECT:

Add to your travel experience in Argentina by doing some additional exciting activities - you never know, you could develop a passion for Latin American dance, or learn a new skill!

  • Tango Courses:
    That most flamboyant and exciting of Latin American rhythms. Includes a weekly Milonga (Tango party) – great fun!

  • Salsa Courses:
    Salsa music is a synthesis of European and African musical influences that was born in Cuba. You’ll learn from a Cuban teacher who will tailor lessons to suit your level, even totally beginners.

  • Spanish Language Courses:
    You can take a few hours of private lessons a week at the same time as doing your project. You'll be amazed at how much it will add to your enjoyment during your stay.

  • Photography Courses:
    6 hours per week of photography lessons in colourful Buenos Aires where there is a host of subjects you can capture with your camera.

This project can also be combined with any of our other projects in Argentina, or you could even do a second project in a different region of the country, thus doubling your adventure and enjoyment!

The polo club located only a 40 minute drive from downtown Buenos Aires, in the county of Pilar, known as the World's Polo Capital due to the large number of polo fields that surround Pilar City (as many as 300).

Your accommodation is based on site on a beautiful Ranch. It is arranged on a double-based room, all with private bathrooms, on a basis of full boarding (4 meals included), providing a family environment. Rooms are cleaned daily and laundry is available for free.

LOCATION:
Pilar is a city in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has a population of more than 226,000 inhabitants. It is about 60 Kilometres north of Buenos Aires (see map, right) and offers a number of social and cultural activities for both adults and children. Along with the beauty of its plazas, parks and horseback rides along the ranches.
